my values
At Wise Fig Gems I believe that we all have a responsibility to look after both our fellow human beings and our planet. To meet that responsibility I am trying hard to ensure that my business is ethical, sustainable, and eco-friendly.
Ethical

Life can be tough for many in the gem-mining communities of the world. There are now a number of gem dealers and suppliers who have been working hard to ensure that the gems that they buy and sell are sourced from communities where it can be demonstrated that the individuals at each step of the pathway have safe working conditions, get a fair deal, and that money raised by trading in these materials is fed back into the local communities to improve lives. While it is difficult for those of us at a distance to have a direct effect on the working conditions and lives of those in the gemstone trade, we can certainly have an indirect effect by taking care where we source our gems from, and by ensuring that those supplying us are supporting those communities. At Wise Fig Gems I consistently strive to ensure that I know where and how my gemstones have been mined, and to make sure that I am doing all I can to support these communities.
I believe that we all have a responsibility to ensure that we are not taking more than we give. By using 100% recycled metals in my jewellery I am working to avoid the environmental cost of new mining. I achieve this by using suppliers who are able to certify that the metals they provide are 100% recycled.
I also believe that society needs to adapt to value each item that we own, and to reduce wastefulness, particularly with regard to the rapid turnover in the “fast fashion” industry. I believe that each purchase should be carefully considered, and bought to last. I am happy to help my customers by providing as much information as I can about my jewellery when they are considering purchasing a piece, and pride myself on being approachable.
Sustainable

Eco-friendly

It would be pointless supplying jewellery that minimises its effect on our planet if the same principles didn’t extend to everything that comes with it. To that end I have worked hard to ensure that all my paper, card and material packaging is made from recycled materials, and that my beautiful wooden boxes are sourced from suppliers who support sustainable and managed forestry initiatives.
